Allison Turrell was born the year of Roman Polanski’s Chinatown, Kool & The Gang’s Jungle Boogie, the kidnapping of Patty Hearst, and Nixon’s resignation. She was raised on a steady diet of cable television, politics, and root vegetables in an extended family of Depression era Germans, Lithuanians and Irish in New England. Realizing she would never fulfill her dreams of being a Solid Gold Dancer, she studied sexual politics and literary theory in Portland, Maine. She relocated to Austin, Texas one fantastically hot summer and worked as an office drone and photographer before receiving her MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2006. She runs Stuck On On, an audio and visual post production studio in East Austin. She recently authored a Photoshop CS3 training video with Firefly Learning, Inc.

Allison Turrell works in photography, sculpture, sound, video, installation, media and food. She has exhibited in Austin, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
